The National University of Singapore (NUS) offers a variety of scholarships addressed to freshmen students, supporting their undergraduate courses in different areas of study.
These scholarships are awarded to students who achieve a high academic level, have a high intellectual capacity, leadership potential amongst other personal characteristics.
The scholarships are available for freshmen Singapore citizens, current NUS undergraduates, freshmen Singapore permanent residents (SPR) and freshmen international students. Singapore nationals have many scholarship options, including programs run by the University as well as programs that are supported by external institutions and encourage the students’ intention of enrolling in a career at the National University of Singapore.
The NUS scholarships include: the NUS Global Merit Scholarship, the NUS Merit Scholarship, the NUS Sports Scholarship and the NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship, aimed to students with a high academic performance and also with outstanding individual talents in the areas of sports and arts.
There are some awards that are administered by specific faculties at NUS, such as the ECE Scholarship run by the Faculty of Engineering and several scholarships offered by the School of Design and Environment.
The LKY-STEP Award, the University Engineering Scholarship (UES), BCA Local Undergraduate Scholarship, the Lim Kim San Memorial Scholarship 2016, the Microsoft YouthSpark Scholarship, the Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA) Founders’ Scholarship 2016, the National Infocomm Scholarship, the Raffles Medical Group Scholarship and The HDB Scholarship are also available for Singapore citizens.
For International Students, the NUS offers self-administered scholarships and there are also awards given by external organizations. The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship (AUS) for applicants of ASEAN nationality, except Singaporeans. (ASEAN country members are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). On the other hand, the Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship is another NUS Scholarship available for foreign applicants.
The Saudi Aramco Scholarship is program supported by the namesake oil company and it’s awarded to top Saudi high school graduates from science areas who intend to study a bachelor’s degree in a discipline required by the company.
The NUS Awards for Study Abroad (NASA) are available for current NUS undergraduate students who participate in one of these: Student Exchange Programme (Exchange Awards), short term or special overseas programmes, such as summer programmes, research attachment programmes or internship programmes, and field studies (Enhancement Awards) and the overseas Joint, Double or Concurrent Degree programmes (Degree Awards).
All applicants for undergraduate admission to NUS will be considered automatically for the scholarship through their applications for admission.
